Modern Ironstone Platters

Modern Ironstone Platters
Ironstone pieces have long been one of my true loves for serving festive or family meals. I bought my first set of Johnson Brothers Regency white teacups and saucers as a teenager, and I still scour thrift, antique, and junk markets looking for pieces to add to my cupboards. I’m delighted to have finally produced my own take on this classic.
I use fine white stoneware and porcelain clays and use both vintage serving pieces and contemporary molds to form these dishes out of slabs of clay. Using fingers, we scallop the slab before it goes into (or over) its mold. Each piece is smoothed by hand and finished in satin or gloss food safe white glaze.
The rectangular platter is 15x12x1. It would make a lovely cheese board and easily held a 15 lb turkey. This piece was featured in Garden and Gun’s Fieldshop.
All of my work is meant to be used. It is microwave safe (one minute at a time, please), top-rack dishwasher safe, and oven safe (take care under broil! Ceramic pieces aren’t fond of the broiler).
